Tom, Jerry, & Divine Provision?

Tonight I sat down with my dinner and turned on Tom and Jerry. I was just looking for something for while I ate and this was great. This episode from 1962, entitled Landing Stripling, has them fight after Tom goes after a bird who landed on him. They go into many of the usual antics for the film. Jerry slingshots Tom a couple times, Tom gets an artillery cannon to fire at the bird but Jerry puts Tom’s tail through it, etc. What interested me with this episode was that Jerry and Tom both seem to have exactly what they needed for whatever stunt they were pulling. All they had to do, save for the cannon, was just grab the stuff and build the trap or device.

We often feel so unequipped for life. Maybe your job doesn’t pay that well or give you enough hours. Perhaps you don’t have the skill to pull off an idea. You might have the reversal. You have many resources but no ideas that would bring innovation to the project. I have several ideas for cosplays that I can’t do right now because I don’t think I should spend the money. I am consistently praying about this and maybe someday I can get one of them.

Scripture often tells us of God’s provision.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3

Sometimes we forget that we have this constant source of provision around us. Provision for overcoming sin. Provision for meeting needs of others around us. James says that if we lack wisdom all we have to do is ask with sincerity and God will provide it.

I don’t know what you need right now but I know God does provide. Well over a year ago someone called me and said he’d like to meet with me. He had seen what I was doing with Nerd Chapel and wanted to help. After praying he felt that some money God had him holding on to was supposed to help fund what I do. That is why I’ve been able to do so much this last year. I don’t know how God will provide in the future, but I know He will take care of my needs. Recently when I decided to move to this .com from Blogspot another friend was there to walk with me through the beginning of the process and get me on the right track.

The timing of Tom and Jerry is what is most interesting. Rarely do they ever wait for something to arrive. As soon as they think of it they can find it. This may not feel like it always happens for us; in fact it doesn’t always happen that way. Sometimes God has us wait a while for what we need. I won’t try to explain His timing. I am way to finite to understand it, but there are times He has it spot on as soon as we know we need something.

Feel free to share your stories of watching God provide. Also, share your prayer requests. I would love to pray for you.
