Prophet of the Reetou

Charlie. Found on the Stargate Wiki.

I have started another watch through of Stargate SG-1! Best TV show ever. Today I watched the episode Show and Tell from Season 2. In this episode an unexpected traveler arrives at the SGC (Stargate Command) via the Stargate with a warning: an attack is imminent.

The episode starts with the gate dialing up due to an incoming wormhole. The protective iris opens without the tech hitting that command. He closes it and it opens again. The defense team with multiple assualt guns gets ready before a young boy to step through. What? Yep, a child has come to see them.

The boy is examined by Doctor Frasier and starts to tell them that he has a warning but he will only talk to O’Niell. The boy seems to know about past events at the SGC, including the Salish negotiations and he knows that O’Niell had a son. He also tells them of his Mother. She is not human. She is from a race called the Reetou. The Reetou can not be seen by the human eye. They have been all but wiped out by the Goa’uld, but it is not the Goa’uld that “Charlie” has been sent to warn them about. Some of the Reetou have established a rebellion, wanting to kill all Goa’uld…and now they figure the only way to do that is to kill all possible hosts.

First, let us consider the boy, who takes the name Charlie. He is human, not reetou. He was created in a lab by his mother to act as a liaison between reetou and humans. The Reetou are not in our phase. They operate in a spectrum we can not. So we can not hear them or touch them or see them. So in order to communicate a person had to be genetically engineered who could see and interact with both Reetou and Humans. That is Charlie. Now, he has also been modified to grow far more quickly. Yet all this tampering has had effects. His organs are shutting down.

Now, let us consider Charlie as a prophet. He is coming to warn the SGC. So he is more of a prophet than a redeemer. Yet he is engineered to interact with both Reetou and Humans. Just as this boy has had a relationship with the Reetou that no one else could have, in the Old Testament the prophets had a relationship with God that others had not experienced.

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and had a personal relationship with God the Father. Called via a Fiery Bush, he often met with God and then either made demands of Pharaoh or taught and guided the Hebrews. In fact we are told:

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him.

Exodus 34:29-30

His face was visibly affected from his time with God and these tablets contained the expectations of God yet Moses also had much more to teach and even gave us the first 5 books of the Bible, which is often referred to as the Pentateuch or the Torah.

But this also reminds me of a different prophet. Elijah. 2 Kings 6 recounts a story about an army coming to attack the town he lived in. His assistant was scared and Elijah prayed that God would show him the protection around them. Immediately the assistant saw an army of angels surrounding the village. The story then gets comedic as Elijah asks God to strike the army with blindness, which allows him to take them to the King and instruct him to send them back to their own land.

Moses told the Hebrews what was expected of them. Elijah acted as a liaison between God and the King, even in a way that the High Priest in Jerusalem could not act. Jeremiah and many other prophets warned Israel and Judah that they were deep in sin and should not be worshipping the gods of the nations around them. After the exile Nehemiah and Ezra led the way for Israel to go back.

So what has God been warning me or you about? It might not be the same for us. Your temptations and sins might be different from mine. Jesus came so that we could interact with God on our own. So we wouldn’t need prophets, at least not like ancient Hebrews needed them. He came to redeem us not for a ticket from Heaven, but so we could really interact with God on our own through Christ.

Charlie and Mother did manage to give a warning to them. Hammond had the team contact the Tok’ra for help and they managed to fend off the attack. They needed weapons called Transphase Eradication Rods (T.E.R.) to see and fight the rebel Reetou attackers. Together with Mother SG-1 managed to take down all 5 attackers.

Sometimes we can’t see our own sin. We need help form Christ to see it. He doesn’t use technology but the Holy Spirit and the Bible to communicate with us. Have you asked him for a check up recently? Jesus will not just help you know your sin, but He’ll empower you to overcome your sin. 1 John assures us that:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9

He listens to us and the Holy Spirit leads us so we don’t have to stay in sin. I encourage you to seek Jesus out. His gate has no iris so you can approach him with confidence.
